SRINAGAR: A married woman from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, left her husband to marry her Facebook friend in Uttar Pradesh, covering a distance of 1,300 kilometres to do so, reports appearing in various media outlets suggest.

Abiral, an MBBS doctor from Srinagar, had married Vinod Kumar in 2017 at an Arya Samaj Mandir in Mohali, Punjab. However, their relationship grew increasingly strained over the years. Meanwhile, Abiral formed a connection with Dr Faizan Ahmed, a resident of Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, through Facebook.
Their online friendship deepened, and in December 2024, Abiral took the bold step of driving from Srinagar to Rae Bareli to meet Faizan. Their meeting culminated in marriage, performed according to traditional rituals, the newspaper reports said.
Vinod Kumar, shocked by the development, filed a police complaint at Deeh police station in Rae Bareli. He accused Faizan of luring his wife and alleged that Abiral had taken Rs 5 lakh worth of gold, Rs 2 lakh in cash, and a mobile phone when she left.
“The woman has expressed her desire to stay with her lover,” Shivkant Pandey, in-charge of Deeh police station, was quoted as having said. He confirmed that an investigation is underway, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
It was not immediately known if she had formally snaped her relationship with Kumar or had simply fled to live with another person. No details were known about her or her Srinagar residence immediately.
