Chandigarh police claimed they have arrested a Kashmiri smuggler and recovered liquor from him.

The Chandigarh police informed on Thursday that it acted on secret information and intercepted a truck near roundabout of sectors 20-21 and recovered 611 cases of IMFL (India made foreign liquor).

Police also arrested the truck driver, who hailed from Kashmir, and was accused of smuggling this liquor to Jammu. According to the police, the accused was identified as Arif Hussain Bhatt.

“Earlier also Arif has been involved in many cases of drug smuggling to Himachal Pradesh and Jammu. He had bought this liquor from a Chandigarh godown and had planned to sell it at much higher price to another smuggler in Jammu,” said a police official.

Besides, on the basis of Arif’s interrogation, a police team has been dispatched for Jammu to arrest other accused in this case. Besides, in a separate case, Punjab police have also recovered 37 cases of IMFL from a car near a check-post in Lalru town, around 30-km from state capital Chandigarh.
