Dr Zargar was the elder brother of Srinagar’s prominent Chartered Accountant, Abdul Majid Zargar.

Son of Habibullah Zargar of Zaina Kadal, Dr Zargar belonged to a third or fourth batch of the Government Medical College Srinagar. He graduated in 1962. After serving locally for some years, he left for London somewhere in 1976. There, he specialised in Social and Preventive Medicine. Eventually, he became the head of a state-run British hospital. In between, he had served the Saudi healthcare system as well.

Family sources said Dr Zargar is survived by two sons – one a chemical engineer and a Saudi citizen, another a computer engineer and a British citizen. His daughter, however, is settled and married in Srinagar. Dr Zargar had also married in Srinagar. The family has been British since 1987 when they got citizenship. Earlier they lived in Yorkshire but post-retirement, Dr Zargar migrated to Birmingham.
