SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has intervened in the case of harassment, detention, and forced removal of Kashmiri vendors by the Municipal Corporation Lucknow, bringing the matter to the attention of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office.

In a statement, Manzoor Ahmad, the Uttar Pradesh President of the association, said that Nasir Khuehami, the National convenor of the association, engaged with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Advisor Awanish Awasthi, urging swift intervention.

“He has spoken to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Advisor Awanish Awasthi and urged him to take cognizance of this gory incident and ensure that they feel safe and secure. He emphasized the paramount importance of the safety and well-being of Kashmiri people, urging the Advisor to take cognizance of the incident and ensure their security,” added Manzoor.

Responding to Khuehami’s plea, Awasthi assured full cooperation from the Chief Minister’s office. He informed Khuehami that, going forward, all vendors would require permission from municipal authorities in Lucknow. Khuehami further stated that all detained vendors have been released, and the seized dry fruits, which were arbitrarily loaded onto vehicles by municipal authorities, have been returned to the vendors. This positive development follows the swift intervention of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office.

Khuehami expressed gratitude for the prompt response of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Advisor Awanish Awasthi, who not only took cognizance of the situation but also assured necessary action to ensure the safety of the Kashmiri vendors.
