Young Kashmiri journalist Pervez Majeed received the Schizophrenia Research Foundation (SCARF)-Press Institute of India (PII) “Media for mental health” award for his reporting about mental health issues of women in Kashmir. The first edition of the media awards, constituted by SCARF, a Chennai-based non-profit organization in collaboration with PII were given away in Chennai today by Gopal Krishna Gandhi, diplomat and former governor of West Bengal, who is grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.
Pervez, who is Kashmir correspondent of Delhi-based magazine Sahara Time, won the second prize for his story “The silent sufferers” in English language category. The first prize in English category is won by Gunjan Sharma, special correspondent The Week and the third prize by P B Jayakumar, senior editor The Business World, Mumbai.
