SRINAGAR: A 17-year-old twelfth class Kashmiri student of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)-run Sir Syed Hamid Senior Secondary School was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances at his rented room in the Shahbagh locality of Aligarh on Sunday afternoon, The Indian Express reported.
The deceased has been identified as Adnan Altaf Maglu, hailing from the Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir. Police told the newspaper that Maglu had been residing in Aligarh and pursuing his education at AMU. The authorities were alerted when the landlord, who had rented the room to Maglu, noticed no activity from the premises until Sunday afternoon.
Maglu’s parents were immediately informed about the situation, and they are expected to reach Aligarh late Monday night. His body has been kept at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Aligarh.
AMU Proctor Wasim Ali told the newspaper that Maglu had been staying in the AMU hostel until last year when he was in eleventh standard. However, due to low scores in his Class examinations, he did not qualify to continue his stay in the hostel as per the university’s rules. Consequently, he had to move to a rented accommodation.
The doctors have told the police that the student had died six to seven hours before his body was brought to the medical college. Police have recovered a few medicines and an empty bottle from the room. University authorities had also said Maglu had earlier cut his vein once when he was in the hostel.
