#KashmirNow: ‘50 Ambulances Carrying Injured Attacked, Damaged’

In the gruesome situation Kashmir is passing through this time, at least 50 ambulances have come under attacks which were carrying injured civilians in last four days.

Given the crisis following killing of militant commander Burhan Wani, the medical services have been crucial and people associated with have rendered great services. The Srinagar hospitals have at least received over 500 injured civilians who were hit by bullets and pellets.

Protests by civilians, firing bullets and pellets by forces started when people came out on streets protesting against the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on last Friday evening. Over 37 people are dead including an SPO since Saturday up to Wednesday morning. 35 dead civilians belong to South Kashmir while one each in Srinagar and Kupwara too have been killed by forces.

Hospitals in South Kashmir have been the major institutions which catered to huge rush before referring the injured to summer capital. However, the only communication and transport available is ambulance.

Director health services Kashmir told Hindustan Times that 50 of its ambulances were attacked and damaged. However, he didn’t identify the attackers.

The attack on ambulances have been sharply criticised as this is the only mode of transport which may help in safeguarding the life of the injured. There have been grave incidents where forces have been stopping and attacking the ambulance and the attendants as well.

As bloodbath refuses to die down, the medical services may be allowed to render their services which may help save more lives.

Meanwhile, a newspaper report said that Gowhar Tantry’s alias Gow Ikhwain, residential house was set on fire Tuesday evening by the people in Kujar area of Kulgam.

He is a member of notorious Special Operations Group (SOG).

Reports said people of the area were angry with Gow Ikhwani who allegedly was responsible for beating and harassing youth and elderly people, damaging public property, and misbehaving with women of the area.
