Amid shutdown massive protests rock Kargil district of Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir against the unabated civilian killings. The call for shutdown and protest was given by Imam Khumani Memorial Trust and it was supported by Islamia School Kargil.
Eyewitnesses told news agency CNS that the district witnessed a complete shutdown while shortly after the Nimaz-e-Zuhr, people in large numbers along with placards and banners denouncing extra use of force on Kashmiri people hit to streets and staged a massive protest.
The protest march was led by Imam Khumani Memorial Trust leader Sheikh Muhammad Hussain Lutfi.
“It is highly condemnable that Indian state is using extra brute force on the protesters in Kashmir. More than hundred protesters have gone blind due to pellet injuries. Is there nobody from India or world who could question India which claims to be the biggest democracy in the world,” Lutfi told the gathering.
He said that it is the prime responsibility of the Indian government to ask people in Kashmir what they want. “The killing and the suppressing the voices is a direct attack on the principles of democracy. Let me tell the Indian authorities who are at the helm of affairs that they can’t control Kashmir by killing innocent people. It is in the interest of India to get the Kashmir issue resolved,” he said.
Number of leaders including the incumbent Congress legislator from Kargil Asghar Ali Karbalai addressed the protesters who equivocally condemned the use of brute force on the protesters on Kashmir.
Congress legislator Asghar Ali Karbali said that killing innocent people will lead Government of India nowhere.
While expressing sympathies with the people of Kashmir, he said that Kashmir is a political issue and it should be resolved politically.
“By using force India can achieve nothing. Government of India must engage Kashmiri people to resolve the long pending Kashmir problem,” he said.
Reports said that besides Kargil main town, all the other important areas including Buroo, Poin, Thaksangroun observed a complete shutdown to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir.
