Police on Saturday attested the three juveniles for stealing cash from Hazrat Mir Amir Kabir Masjid Shey in Ladakh and rupees 2, 51,630 were recovered from their procession.

Kashmir’s first and oldest mosque robbed, money recovered

Police said that during the intervening night of July 31, and August 1, 2018, some unknown thieves had entered into the premises of Hazrat Mir Amir Kabir Masjid Shey in Ladakh, broke the locker and decamped with all the cash available in the locker consequent whereupon Case FIR No 91/2018 U/S 379 RPC was registered in Police station Leh through Police Post Choglamsar and investigations were started.

Keeping in view the sensitivity of the case involving theft in a mosque and the public interest therein, A team of police was immediately directed to put their efforts and crack the case.

Checkpoints were soon laid and suspects were rounded up which led to the arrest of three persons who confessed to their involvement in the case and upon their disclosure, a stolen sum of Rs 251630/- was recovered from near Hazrat Mir Kabir Masjid Shey concealed in a bag and hidden in the bushes.

All the three accused are juveniles and hence the case has been handed over to District Juvenile Officer for further investigation. The locals of the area have appreciated the role of Police in solving the theft case within no time.
