SRINAGAR: Kashmir’s first football coach Nadiya Nighat has been selected by Bengaluru based Parikrma Football Club as its striker

An ardent Cristiano Ronaldo fan, Nighat received the call from the club last October.

“It is a proud moment for me that I will be playing for Parikrma FC for a session,” Nighat said.

Nighat started her journey in 2007 through which her determination to uplift young women developed manifold. Overcoming various hurdles she started her own academy in 2015, Jeeya Jaan- 7 Football Club, named on her nickname.

At her academy in Rambagh, she trains around 50 young players, including girls from different age groups. She aims to introduce free training for aspiring youngsters whose parents cannot afford the enrolment costs. Over the past decade, her commitments to the sport and her skills on the field have turned Nighat into a role model for other female athletes in the region.

“Youth should do what they love. If they love something deeply, then they should not bother about certain sacrifices,” she said, adding that if anyone needs any help related to football she is always available.
