SRINAGAR: A seven-year-old girl sustained minor injuries during an exchange of fire between militants and security forces in the Kathua district on Sunday, officials said.
The girl, identified as Anchal Kumari (7), daughter of Nago from Bihar, currently residing in Ward No. 11, Hiranagar, near Radha Swami Ashram, suffered a minor injury and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The gunfight erupted after a joint team of the Police, Army, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation based on specific inputs about the presence of militants in Hiranagar.
As security forces approached the suspected location, the hiding militants opened fire, prompting retaliation from the joint team.
A senior police officer confirmed to GNS that an exchange of fire was ongoing between militants and security forces.
According to sources, intelligence inputs suggest the presence of three to five militants in the area. Further details are awaited. (GNS)
