A board of doctors set up by the Medical Superintendent of the medical college in Jammu to ascertain the cause of death of the eight-year-old Kathua victim has confirmed she died of asphyxiation and was sexually assaulted, reported The Tribune.

According to report published by The Tribune said that the board was constituted on the request of the SHO, Hiranagar police station.

“The evidence was submitted in the court of Dr Tejwinder Singh, Pathankot District and Sessions Judge,” report said.

The minor girl, from the minority Bakkerwal community, was allegedly abducted, raped and murdered in January this year. “Dr Jyoti Rao, Medical Officer of the Kathua Civil Hospital, one of the three members on the board, is a prosecution witness,” special public prosecutors Santokh Singh Basra and JK Chopra said. The other members were Dr Madhu Dhingra and Dr Mukul Ubbot, The Tribune reported.
