Srinagar

Clashes broke out between the police and students in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday, resulting in injuries to many students, reports claimed.

Local witnesses said that scores of students from various coaching centers while protesting against the Kathua rape and murder incident, pelted stones on troops deployed in the area who fired tear smoke shells to disperse them, triggering clashes.

Soon clashes between forces and students erupted leading to the closure of shops and other business establishments in the town. Police used tear gas shells and pellets to disperse the protestors, leading to injuries to fifteen students of them, they said.

Protests have also been reported in Batpora and Keller areas of the district.

Hospital sources said that they received 15 injured so far who were being treated.
