Students of Government Degree College Islamabad on Monday held a protest demonstration against the rape and murder of eight-year-old nomadic girl Asifa, a resident of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Scores of the students assembled inside the college premises shouting pro-freedom slogans against the gruesome incident and demanded punishment for the guilty.

Holding placards and banners the protesting students marched within the college premises demanding justice for the victim.

In Budgam, Students of Boys Higher Secondary Beerwah took out a peaceful protest march at Beerwah town demanding justice for Asifa.

A large number of students assembled in the lawn of school and held a peaceful protest against the gruesome Kathua incident.

The students of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) took out a  protest march against the rape and murder of the 8-year-old girl, who was raped inside a temple by a gang of eight Hindus in Kathua.

Chanting anti-India and anti-Peoples Democratic Party, Bharatiya Janata Party slogans, the protesting students said: “We live in a country where a girl child is neither safe in the womb nor out of it.”

Meanwhile, students of Vitasta school of Law and humanities College Nowgam Srinagar held a peaceful protest demanding punishment for the guilty.

Scores of the students came out of their college and marched towards the main Nowgam chowk in solidarity with Asifa. The protest was aimed to draw the attention towards the violence against women all over the world, and respecting the modesty of women in all ways no matter which place.

In Doda thousands of students from various educational institutions including students from GDC Doda Monday staged a strong protest at District Hqr Doda in Chenab Valley region, demanding justice for eight-year-old Kathua rape and murder victim.

The students were seen holding placards in their hands, depicting different messages calling for justice in the case of Kathua rape and murder case.

Speaking on the occasion, one of the male students said that aim of holding the protest was to draw attention towards the violence against women all over the world, while a female student, demanded that the culprits of the heinous crime be hanged till death besides demanded a fair investigation into the case.

Raising different slogans, the protesting students demanded stern punishment to culprits to the extent that in future no one dares to do such a shameful act.

The protests in solidarity with Asifa are being closely followed by all over the world by holding rallies and conferences. Besides routine reportage, several newspapers have carried editorials and used the case to draw attention to violence against women all over the world.

On January 17, the body of a minor girl was found in the forests near Rasana, Hiranagar. The girl had been missing for a week. According to police, she had been abducted and raped by an SPO Deepak Khajuria, who was a part of the team sent out to find her when she was missing.

Nine accused, including the alleged mastermind Sanji Ram – an ex-bureaucrat – and his son Vishal Kumar, a police head constable, two SPOs and a sub-inspector of police, have been arrested in the case.
