SRINAGAR: A prisoner facing trial for murdering his wife is reported to have died of Covid19 in a Jammu jail.

Identified as Rajeev Pathania, 50, the trial prisoner was a resident of Ward No 3 in Krishna Colony Kathua. He died of “cardiopulmonary arrest and COVID-19 in the Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua”, Jammu newspaper Daily Excelsior reported. “He had tested positive for the virus during COVID testing drive undertaken in the District Jail Kathua by Jail Superintendent Rajni Sehgal on May 24.”

The newspaper said he was symptomatic and was shifted to the GMC Kathua where he succumbed to the virus early on Thursday. He was facing charges for murdering his wife in 2004.
