The cable stayed Anji Bridge in Reasi connecting two railway tunnels from Reasi and Katra side.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said, “If there are security concerns, then I don’t think there should be any objections. After all, whosoever travels by train wishes for their safety and security, and so do we.”

He added that such measures should be acceptable until the region achieves complete normalcy. “If it’s to avert any threat, then it’s fine. At the end of the day, safety must come first,” he said, adding, “It’s ultimately up to the railway authorities to decide, and I hope whatever decision they take is made keeping the people in mind.”

Later, the chief minister took to his social media handle on X to clarify his statement. In a tweet, he wrote, “While we understand the need to secure the train & the passengers who will travel using it, making passengers change trains will defeat the very purpose of the line and render the thousands of crores of investment pointless.” He said that the train change won’t be supported by them.

Hits Ski Slopes in Gulmarg

An avid skier, Omar Abdullah hit the ski slopes in Gulmarg, commenting, “Though snowfall is less this season, it’s still good. We need more snow for better skiing experiences, but for now, we’ll work on mending the ski tracks during the summer.”

He highlighted the untapped skiing potential of destinations like Sonamarg and Dodpathri. “Sonamarg has immense potential for skiing, and Dodpathri can also be utilised for other activities. We’ve engaged a consultant to assess and recommend the best options for each location,” he said.

The Chief Minister also announced plans for a convention centre in Gulmarg, which he said would attract international conferences and events. “This will not only bring national leaders but also position Gulmarg as a prime international destination for events. It’s going to be a significant asset for the region,” he noted.

Encouraging tourists to visit Kashmir, Omar Abdullah invited them to experience the Valley’s unparalleled hospitality and scenic beauty. “We hope they leave with unforgettable memories,” he said.

Z-Morh Tunnel to Open New Avenues

The Chief Minister expressed optimism about the long-awaited Z-Morh Tunnel, stating that it would open new opportunities for residents near Sonamarg and simplify travel along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway.

He extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow to inaugurate the tunnel. “This tunnel will open new vistas. We are now eagerly awaiting the completion of the Zojila Tunnel, which will further enhance connectivity in a few years,” Omar remarked.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of upgrading infrastructure to meet international standards. “To host international events, we need to improve our ski slopes and supporting facilities. This is essential for Kashmir to stand out on the global tourism map,” he concluded. (KNO)
