The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has organized ‘All India North Zone Kayaking and canoeing championship’ with an aim to provide an impetus to water sports and boost adventure tourism in the valley.

The three-day championship commenced on Tuesday (October 30) at the scenic Dal Lake in Srinagar city and would conclude on Thursday (November 01).

The General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Kayaking and Canoeing Association (JKKCA), Umar Rafique. said that this championship would provide a fillip to water sports in the valley.

“This is All India North Zone Kayaking and canoeing championship and sportsmen from the valley and across the country have come to participate. The championship began from October 30 and would conclude on November 01.

“Around 150 players are participating. We have got an opportunity to organise this championship with an aim to provide a boost to water sports as God has blessed us with the scenic beauty. We try to use this through sports point of view so that more and more youth get attracted towards water sports,” said Rafique.

The championship has been jointly organised by Jammu and Kashmir Kayaking and Canoeing Association (JKKCA) and Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association in collaboration with Tourism Department.

Around 150 players from the Valley and across India are taking part in the championship.
