Srinagar

The President, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry Javed Ahmad Tenga on Wednesday took strong exception to the repeated problems being faced by exporters due to the inability of the Srinagar Customs in providing hassle-free services.

The spokesman said that in spite of the Kashmir Chamber giving advance notice to the Customs Department about the importance of taking all possible measures for providing smooth and hassle-free services in May/June in view of the Holy month of Ramzan due to which increased business was anticipated.

No consignments of exporters could be dispatched since May 18, 2018, due to a minor glitch in the system. This has resulted in causing irreparable losses to the exporters who already had a very tight despatch schedule.

He further stated that the Customs are reportedly resorting to hundred percent physical examination of consignments which apart from being time-consuming causes unwarranted harassment. This practice is being conducted only in our State and therefore deplorable.
