SRINAGAR: The office bearers of The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), led by its President Javid Ahmad Tenga, had a meeting with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on May 12, 2023, at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar to discuss the current status of various sectors of the economy of Jammu & Kashmir. LG Sinha warmly welcomed the team and congratulated them on assuming the charge of the KCC&I Executive Body recently. Lt Governor appreciated and extolled the role that the KCC&I stands to play in relation to various sectors that contribute to the economy of Jammu & Kashmir.

A comprehensive memorandum was presented to the Lt Governor, outlining numerous sectors and issues of concern. These encompassed a broad range of topics, including the promotion of tourism and the creation of district-level handicraft clusters.

The memorandum also stressed the importance of measures such as labelling and quality control, reduction of GST on handicrafts, and the revival of the industrial sector. Other topics covered included horticulture, environmental conservation, and city infrastructure development.

LG also appreciated the issues raised by the KCCI and assured the delegation that the issues projected by them would be looked into meticulously for early redressal. He advised that KCC&I should make efforts for women development.

At the same time, the Lt Governor expressed displeasure as a large number of complaints have been received about overcharging, misguiding, harassment, and sale of fake items to tourists and desired that the KCCI ensure sanitizing the stakeholders to adopt fair trade practices. Otherwise, the Government will be forced to come down heavily on the culprits.
