The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) Friday said that it would stage a protest against what it called relegation of the business of tour operators of Kashmir by Online Travel Portals (OTPs).

A statement issued by the traders body here termed it an “unethical” business way by offering discounts or coupons or vouchers to customers who book Kashmir Packages, particularly Hotel bookings online.

“This unethical & illegal practice by these OTP’s have made Tour/Travel operators to suffer badly and if this trend continues, it will render them jobless leading to starvation of thousands of related people,” it said.

It also said that in view of this “unethical” practice by various OTPs, a nation-wide protest has been declared by the Tourism Industry of India to be organised on June 25 with a major show of support at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi and at various State Capitals andd Tourist Destinations.

“The Members of Kashmir Tourism Industry under the auspices of  The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & industry have decided to support the initiative of peaceful protest to take place at Pratap Park at 11:30 am for an hour  upto 12:30 pm,” it said.
