Providing reference to ongoing operations in Keran Sector of Kupwara Area, the Public relations officer (PRO) Defense in a statement to KNS mentioned that  there were specific intelligence inputs of likely infiltration by the militants in the area.  The statement further reads that  there have been four desperate attempts of infiltration in this sector which started on 23 Sep 13, wherein one militant  was killed in the area of Lashdat Nar, and a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and war like stores were recovered.

“The area of operations is a high altitude area, which has heights ranging from 10000 – 12000 ft with thickly forested steep slopes, deep ravines and crevasses.  Operations conducted have hence been deliberate and controlled,” reads the statement adding that there have been two other infiltration bids attempted thereafter in the same sector very recently, in a span of 24 hours.  In the first attempt on 04 Oct, three militants  were killed in Gujjardur area while in the second attempt by militants  to infiltrate in the area of Fateh Gali on 05 Oct, four hardcore ‘terrorists’ were killed.  In both cases, a large amount of arms, ammunition and war like stores have been recovered.

“Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, Army Commander Northern Command and Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, GOC 15 Corps have visited the area to review the situation on ground.  The high levels of professionalism and military acumen displayed by our troops in carrying out operations under extremely challenging weather and terrain conditions have been highly appreciated by the Army Commander.” mentioned the statement.
