The state government has accepted the voluntary retirement of Muhammad Iqbal Khanday as Chief Secretary.

Sources in the government revealed Wednesday evening that a notification has been issued by General Administration department (GAD) today.

“In pursuance of sub-rule(2) of Rule 16 of the all India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefit) Rules, 1958, read with second proviso to this Rule, sanction is hereby accorded to the voluntary retirement of Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, IAS (JK:1978), Chief Secretary, J&K, from the Indian Administrative Service with effect from 31st August, 2015 (afternoon)”, reads the order.

Muhammad Iqbal Khanday had last Monday offered sent his voluntary retirement to chief minister.

Sources, however, did not confirm about who would be the new top bureaucrat in the state.
