In a press statement issued on Thursday, the group referred to a letter from the District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar) dated April 24, 2025, which pertains to the Assembly constituency jurisdiction of the hospital during the election process.

They clarified that the letter only addresses electoral matters and does not imply any change in the hospital’s administrative control.

The statement said JLNM Hospital primarily caters to more than 47,000 residents of Khanyar, while the Zadibal constituency has around 3,000 residents in its catchment. The group said any move to alter the hospital’s jurisdiction would be unjust to the majority population it serves.

Representing over 40 mohallas of Khanyar, the group rejected what it called an “ill-conceived” administrative step and warned that the decision would be opposed through all available channels.

The group urged authorities to withdraw any such plan and warned of widespread protests if the hospital is brought under Zadibal’s control.
