Khonmoh Cement Factory Accident Claims One Life

   

SRINAGAR: A worker injured in a June 18 accident at a cement factory in the Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar has died after battling for life for three days at the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital here.

The deceased has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, 40, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat, a resident of Arin in Bandipora district. His is being laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard today.

Bhat was among seven workers injured in the incident that occurred on June 18 inside the Khyber Cement plant. While initial reports had indicated that all the injured workers had sustained burn injuries, informed officials said Bhat’s head injuries were not caused by burns. He was critically injured after falling from a height during the accident and has been undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of SMHS Hospital since then.

Despite sustained medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries early on Sunday morning, officials said.

The accident left seven workers injured in a fire incident while the workers were on duty. The injured workers were immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment.

Six other injured workers continue to receive medical care and are reported to be under treatment.

Authorities have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident. Police have also taken cognisance of the incident and started further investigation.
