In a dramatic development body of Tariq Ahmad Mohand, 24, a resident of Heff in Shopian, was exhumed and buried in local martyr’s graveyard, reportedly on the insistence of militants.

On July 8, 2018, Tariq was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen from his house. A day later his body was found in a paddy field in Arwani village of Kulgam. After his killing rumors started to do rounds that Tariq was killed for being an army informer.

Interestingly, Tariq, a carpenter, was a cousin of slain Hizb militant Bilal Ahmad Mohand alias Bilal Molvi, who was killed along with Saddam Padder in Badigam area of Shopian on May 6 this year.

An official said that soon after the conclusion of Friday prayers at Heff Shopian, around six hundred people of the village gathered shouting slogans demanded justice to the family of Tariq Mohand. Reports also said that soon after the deceased was buried a group militant offered the gun salute to the deceased at his graveyard. “They also clarified that they are not involved in the killing of Tariq,” said a local wishing anonymity.

Earlier a police official said that Tariq was kidnapped and killed by militants few days ago on the basis of allegations that he is an informer of forces which led to the encounter where district Commander Saddam Padder along with four others was killed.
