Octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch and senior resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani on Monday said the killing of 190 militants in gunfights with forces this year was “a big loss and a national tragedy”.

In a statement, while expressing “shock and grief” over the militant killings, Geelani said that this shows that the authorities are ruling “through their military might” in Kashmir.

“It is synonymous to the fact that they are carrying the occupation through their military might. People while resisting unconstitutional and illegal occupation, have for the past 71 years presented more than 6 lakh souls,” He said that India has waged a war on innocent civilians in the Valley.

The Hurriyat Conference chairperson said that the youth sacrificing their precious lives “are nourishing a sacred cause with their blood”.

He appealed people to safeguard their sacrifices and stay away from those “strengthening forced and illegal occupation.”

Geelani also paid his glorious tributes to Ali Kadal martyrs and said: “We are duty bound to follow their mission till its logical end.”
