After a five hour long operation at Sinthan Top situated at an altitude of 12500 feet on Mughal Road, a team of Chatroo Police Station of Kishtwar district Tuesday rescued 13 passengers including an infant who were trapped due to fresh snowfall in upper reaches of Kishtwar district of the valley.

Two vehicles bearing registration No JK06-8083 and JK17-1347 with 13 people on board including nine male, one female, one six month old infant and two drivers were on their way to Kishtwar when their vehicles were trapped at around 12.30 am on Tuesday due to slippery road conditions and accumulation of around two and a half feet snow on the road.

Additional SP Kishtwar Abdul Qayoom said that the two vehicles were trapped about one km from Sinthan Top near Kishtwar. “Chatroo police received a call from one of the trapped passenger at around 12.30 AM requesting for the help. He said that after receiving the help call, a team of Chatroo police lead by SHO Inayat Hussain under the supervision of SSP Kishtwar Sandeep Kumar Wazir launched a rescue operation.”

He said that police with the help of private JCB started clearing the road.

He said that at around 6 am today, the police team reached to the trapped passengers and shifted them to safer place from where they were sent to their homes.

He said that Kishtwar police will take up the matter with Islamabad Police so that no vehicle is allowed to move on the road without getting the clearance.

It is pertinent to mention that various parts of Kishtwar District received moderate rainfall in lower areas and snowfall in upper reaches breaking a four month long dry spell.
