Kokernag Encounter: LG, Political Class Condemn Militant Attack

   

SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and leaders from the political parties in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday condemned the Kokernag militant attack and extended condolences to the families of slain police officer and army men who lost their lives in the encounter.

An Army colonel, a major, and a deputy superintendent of JK Police were killed in the ongoing gunfight with militants in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district on Wednesday.

Taking to Social networking handle X, LG Sinha Wrote: “Paid tributes to JKP’s DySP Humayun Bhat, who laid down his life in an anti-terror operation in Anantnag. I salute the indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice of Col Manpreet Singh & Major Ashish Dhonack. Entire nation stands firmly with their families in this hour of grief.”

National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah said that such attacks inflict unbearable pain and suffering on the nation and undermine peace and stability in the area.

“Terrible terrible news from J&K. An army colonel, a major and a J&K Police DYSP gave the ultimate sacrifice  in an encounter in Kokernag area of South Kashmir today. DySP Humayan Bhat, Major Ashish Dhonack, and Colonel Manpreet Singh laid down their lives in an encounter with terrorists. May their souls rest in peace & may their loved ones find strength at this difficult time,” Omar wrote on X.

“Such attacks inflict unbearable pain and suffering on our nation and undermine peace and stability in the area. JKNC unequivocally condemns this terror attack,” Omar said.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet said that there is no place for such abominable acts of violence. “My deepest condolences to the families of those who were killed in the line of duty at Anantnag today. There is no place for such abominable acts of violence,” Mehbooba said.

Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, in a statement also expressed anguish over the loss of lives and said, “The entire nation mourns the loss of these valiant heroes who laid down their lives while courageously facing terrorists in Garol village, Kokernag, Anantnag, today. My deepest condolences go out to the families of Army Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish, and Deputy Superintendent of J&K Police Humayun Bhat. May Allah grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss, and may the departed souls rest in eternal peace. I urge our security agencies to swiftly bring these terrorists to justice.”

CPI (M) leader and former MLA Kulgam, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami in  a post on social media handle X said, “Extending my heartfelt condolences to the families of  those officers who made ultimate sacrifices in the line of duty in Kokernag area of Anantnag.”

“My heart goes out for the families of three valiant officers who were martyred today. Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonack and DySP Humayan Bhat A very sad day.  May they rest in peace and May the perpetrators rot in Hell,” Peoples Conference (PC) Chairman, Sajad Gani Lone said in a statement issued to press.

Lone further said that sacrifice is a reminder of the challenges and risks that the security forces and police personnel face in safeguarding the peace and security of the region. “We stand in solidarity with the families of the martyred officers during this difficult time. We pray that the souls of these brave officers may rest in eternal peace”, he added.

Congress Working Committee (CWC) Member Ghulam Ahmad Mir expressed his anguish over the killings of Army Colonel, Major and Deputy SP of J&K police in Kokernag encounter and condemned the incident in strongest words.
