SRINAGAR: Legendary teacher and researcher Prof Mushtaq A Quraishi passed away on October 17, 2020, at his Srinagar residence. He was fighting cancer and was unwell for a long time.

Qureshi’s death was widely condoled by his colleagues and his students across Kashmir.

Prof Qureshi had done his PhD at CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu (then Regional Research Laboratory, Jammu), through the University of Kashmir. After initially working as Research Officer (Chemistry) at Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine Srinagar, Qureshi was appointed as an associate professor at Department of Chemistry, University of Kashmir, where he contributed significantly particularly in teaching phytochemistry and later headed the Chemistry Department, Dean Sciences, Director Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA). Soon, he was appointed as Professor and Dean Academics at Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora.

Overall, Prof Qureshi taught phytochemistry for 35 years. His contributions were immense especially during the eighties and nineties. He would be always helpful to his students.

Family sources said there will not be any condolence meeting at his residence at Umarabad Sector A Peerbagh due to pandemic. Fateh Khawani will be held at their ancestral graveyard Kotur Gudri Malkha Srinagar.

Those who condoled his death included Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir and Dr Nissar A Mir, the Registrar.
