Kashmir University Tuesday hosted a solo open Theatre performance by renowned artist, Ayash Arif.

Held in Ibn Khaldun auditorium of varsity, Minister for Finance, Labour, Employment and Culture, Dr Haseeb A Drabu was the chief guest on the occasion.

Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India sponsored Indian Council for Cultural Relations organized the event in the varsity campus this evening.

Noted drama critique, Farooq Nazki, on the occasion lauded Ayash for his “narration of the story”. “This, only Ayash can do,” he told the gathering.

Joined by around a half dozen other female characters, Ayash played the role of sculptor in the drama titled as ‘Sangtarash’ (Sculptor).

In his address, Minister for Culture, Dr Haseeb A Drabu said that cultural activities have remained confined to a very small circle and has thus become elitist. “We need to open such activities to public at large,” he said. “Also, lot of bureaucrats have crept into cultural affairs making it look like an agenda.”
