The students of the department of sociology Kashmir University (KU) on Tuesday participated in a silent protest to pay tributes to Prof Dr Muhammad Rafi Bhat on his first death anniversary.
Dr Rafi a resident of Ganderbal was killed on May 06, 2018 in a gunfight with the government forces along with other four militants in Badigam village of Shopian. Six civilians were also killed during the gunfight.
Dr Rafi was awarded a doctorate degree in November 2017. He had completed his PhD programme on whole time basis in the Department of Sociology after successfully defending his thesis entitled “Globalization and emerging trends in Consumerism: A comparative study of rural and urban Kashmir”. He was working as Assistant Professor (Contractual) in the Sociology department of the varsity.
Reports said that scores of students held banners, placards and offered prayers for the slain professor.
“The students also recalled the contribution of the late Professor towards the department,” they said.
