In an over-night gun-battle which resumed Sunday morning, the toll of killings has reached to seven. The Deputy Inspector General of police South Kashmir range, S P Pani confirmed the killings of two armymen, four militants and a civilian. The reports further suggest that three soldiers and SOG personnel received injuries in the unfuight.

The civilian killed as per police sources is the house owner in which militants were hiding.

The identity of only two armymen and two militants have been ascertained. According to police the two slain identified militants are locals of South Kashmir; Mudasir Ahmad Tantray, a resident of Redwani and Farooq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Arow in Kulgam.

The slain soldiers in the encounter were identified by police as Lance Naik Raghubeer Singh (4578033Y) and Bhandoriya Gopal Singh (45687392W), also a Lance Naik.

The operation was carried out by a joint forces comprising Army’s 1st RR and Special Operations group of J&K Police.

The reports from the encounter site are that there are massive protests going on in the area. The people from surrounding villages are marching towards the spot of encounter.
