SRINAGAR: The two Pakistani militants of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit, who were killed in an encounter with counter insurgent forces in Mirhama area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday, have been identified and were active since 2018, police said on Sunday.

An official said that based on specific input generated by police regarding presence of militants in Mirhama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police and Army (44RR ) in the said area.

He said that during the search operation, as the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter. Later on CRPF also joined.

“In the ensuing encounter, two militants linked with proscribed outfit JeM were killed,” he said, adding that they have been identified as as Sultan Pathan and Zabiullah, both residents of Pakistan.
