SRINAGAR: Three soldiers were injured in an ongoing encounter that broke out in the Hallan forest area of Damhal Hanjipora in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said on Friday.

However, the operation has been suspended for the night.

A police official said that three soldiers from 34 Rashtriya Rifles were injured and have been shifted to the 92 Base Hospital based in Badami Bagh.

“The condition of all three injured soldiers is stated to be critical,” the official said.

The police also said that the search in the area has been intensified.

Earlier, the police, in a tweet, said that the encounter broke out in the forest area while Army and Kulgam Police were on the job.


“#Encounter has started at the high reaches of Halan forest area of #Kulgam district. Army & Kulgam Police are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Police Zone tweeted.

A police official said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, and the forces retaliated, triggering a gunfight.

Meanwhile, the operation has been suspended for the night. (KNO)
