SRINAGAR: Police arrested a female drug peddler on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. They seized a substantial quantity of contraband substances.
According to officials, a police party from Police Station Qaimoh, during a checkpoint operation at Sofigund, noticed a woman attempting to flee the scene. She was promptly apprehended, and a search led to the recovery of 7 grams of brown sugar, 2 kilograms of poppy straw, and Rs 10,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the narcotics trade.
The accused, whose name has been withheld, is the wife of Manto Hussain, a resident of Malda Calcutta presently residing in Sofigund. She was arrested and remains in custody at the police station.
A case under FIR No. 37/2025 has been registered at Police Station Qaimoh under relevant sections of the law, and further investigation is underway.
Police have urged the public to report any instances of drug peddling or related crimes to the nearest police station or by dialling 112.
