SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday issued the following statement regarding the rape case of Kulgam district saying that police station Qazigund received a written complaint from an individual alleging therein that her daughter (name withheld) was raped by three persons at Bonigam Qazigund with the help of a woman of Damjen area.

A police spokesman in a statement said that the said offence as per the complainant surfaced during the course of a medical examination where she was found pregnant.

“On receipt of the complaint, a proper case vide FIR No. 61/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation was initiated,” said the spokesman.

“During the course of the investigation, all the accused persons involved in the offence were arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody. They have been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Mir son of Mohd Ahsan Mir resident of Beebrada Parigam, Aejaz Ahmad Shah son of Mohd Yousuf Shah resident of Cheyan Devsar, Kifayat Ahmad Malik son of Ghulam Hassan Malik resident of Yaripora and Shabrooza wife of Mushtaq Ahmad Itoo resident of Damjen,” he said.

“During the investigation, it surfaced that the accused police personnel was not on duty when the offence was committed neither it had been committed inside police premises. Pertinently, in addition to criminal proceedings, departmental proceedings have also been initiated against him,” he added.

“Kulgam Police assures the public that strict action will be taken against offenders, regardless of their position or placement. Further investigation into the matter in going on,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
