Three youth who were injured near the gunfight site in Kundlan Shopian were referred to Srinagar for the specialised treatment on Tuesday.

Reports said soon after the news of the encounter spread youth took to the streets triggering clashes with government forces resulting in injuries to three youth.

All the three injured youth were shifted to nearby hospital where from they were referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment.

Earlier, two army men including an officer were injured in the initial exchange of fire with the militants, reports said. The injured were shifted to 92 base military hospital in Badami Bagh Srinagar.

An official said that a gunfight broke out after a joint party of army’s 34 RR, Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched searches in Kundalan following inputs about the presence of militants.

As the forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants, believed to be two in number, opened fire. The forces retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
