SRINAGAR

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Sunday organized special prayers at Handwara, Chogul and the Hurriyat (G) headquarters Hyderpora here in the memory of 25 January 1990 bloodshed of Handwara.

In a statement a spokesman of the party said, “A complete shutdown was observed today in the Handwara town while as Tehreek-e-Hurriyat today organized special prayers at Handwara, Chogul and the Hurriyat headquarters Hyderpora and prayed for the peace to the departed souls.”

“Geelani sahib thanked the people of Handwara for observing shutdown against the brutal and cruel act of the army and demanded impartial investigation into this massacre so that the involved persons are held strictly accountable. During the last 25 years in Jammu & Kashmir, forces killed thousands of innocent people of the state but India is not showing any kind of interest in investigating these massacres, so it becomes the responsibility of the world community to come forward and discharge their duties in giving justice to the unarmed and innocent Kashmiris,” he said.

According to the statement, besides the different Masjids of the town, the special prayers were also held in Chougal for the martyrs of Handwara which was led by the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Tehsil president Ghulam Hassan Malik while as a similar gathering was also organized at Tehreek-e-Hurriyat head office at Hyderpora.

“The participants prayed for the peace to the departed souls and expressed their sympathy with the families of the martyred persons.”

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat district president Mohammad Yousuf Lone today said that Kupwara district has offered tremendous and maximum sacrifices in the ongoing freedom struggle and the forces have unlashed “boundless cruelties and atrocities over the people of this district.”

“There is hardly any house in the whole district who doesn’t have lost their loved ones and who have not bore the brunt of the forces. Most of the widows and orphans due to the conflict are from this district and most of the molestation and the rape incidents by the forces is also the record of this district. He however said that few political black sheep which grow up from this area, want to wash out all these sacrifices of the district. They not only bring a bad name to the district but they are also a shame for the whole nation and they have hurt the souls of those brave sons of the district who sacrificed their precious lives for the better future of the nation,” he said.

Mohammad Yousuf Lone said that the conscious and intellectual section of the society has a big responsibility and they should come forward to protect the pro-freedom identity of the district.
