Breaking strict restrictions, hundreds joined a protest march against the killing of Sumo driver Asif at Kralpora Kupwara on Sunday seeking immediate arrest of the army officer involved in the incident, said AIP spokesman.

Led by MLA Langate Er. Rasheed, the protest march started from main chowk Kralpora and travelled a distance of four kilometers.

“Men, women and a large number of youth joined the procession chanting pro-plebiscite and anti-army slogans and demanding immediate arrest of the culprits,” said spokesman and added that the procession breaking many security barriers reached the outskirts of Thandipora, where police resorted to heavy shelling and arrested Er. Rasheed along with others.

“Amid heavy shelling Er. Rasheed was lodged in Police station Kralpora. In the scuffle many protesters sustained injuries, said, the spokesman.

Speaking to media before his arrest, Er. Rasheed said that if army chief has any respect for the human rights he must immediately move beyond traditional apology and words and sack the involved army officer.

“Let Indian army introspect and find how it’s tall claims of protecting Human Rights have fallen flat and it has lost the moral battle to Kashmiris. Where is the logic to shoot Asif in his head without any reason and the maximum army could have done would have been to shoot in the air and captured him,” he said and added that “the incident proves that Mehbooba Mufti has lost control and as a part of its state policy army is receiving directions from New Delhi”.

Er. Rasheed rejected any probe in the matter and said that these probes have proven absolutely false and a cover to protect the killers. “If Govt. feels any shame it must arrest the killers in uniform without any excuses.”
Rasheed also criticized National Media for patron aging the killers and putting the absolutely false perspective of the happenings in Kashmir.
