Clashes erupted in Batpora village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday morning after the killing of a Sumo driver in army firing late Saturday night.

Reports said that people in large number stopped the ambulance carrying the body of the deceased at Batpora, a village adjoining Thandipora, and staged massive protesters.

The forces, they said, used force by lobbing tear smoke shells.

Pertinent to mention, Asif Iqbal, 22, son of Mohammad Iqbal was killed by the army near his home.

According to locals, Asif was killed after army opened fire in Thindpora village of Kralpora in Kupwara at around 11:30 pm.

Giving details they said that Asif, a sumo driver was called by somebody to ferry a patient. Before he could take his sumo bearing registration number JK05C-760 out of his house, the locals said army had laid an ambush in the area and fired indiscriminately, resulting in his death on way to Srinagar hospital.
