National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday while arresting Kupwara man claimed to have arrested a mastermind behind the Nagrota army camp attack, reported a media outlet UNI.

UNI quoted IG NIA Alok Mittal saying: “The agency on Saturday arrested Syed Muneer-ul-Hassan Qadri, a resident of Khurhama, Lolab, Lalpora in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district during the investigation of a case, RC-16/2016/NIA/DLI.”

“The Jammu and Kashmir Police has played a key role in the arrest of the accused,” he said.

On 29th of November 2016, the gunmen had stormed the Nagrota camp and killed at least seven army men while as injured three others in the attack. Three attackers were killed in the operation and a huge quantity of firearms, ammunition, explosives and other articles were recovered from the slain.

“Preliminary interrogation of the accused revealed that the attack was carried out by the Jaish-e-Mohammad in furtherance of a well-planned conspiracy from Pakistan,” said Mittal.

He said the accused revealed that he along with other Kashmir-based JeM operatives were in touch with the JeM leadership in Pakistan.

“He revealed to have received a freshly infiltrated group of three Pakistani militants from the Samba sector a day before the attack,” said Mittal.

“They subsequently stayed at a hotel in Jammu and then left the attackers at Nagrota outside the army camp late at night and proceeded to the Kashmir valley.”(UNI)
