Kupwara Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Lead Awareness Rallies Against Narcotics

   

SRINAGAR: Intensifying their crackdown on drug-related crimes, police in Kupwara arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband from his possession, while also leading awareness rallies in Sogam and Kralpora to combat substance abuse.

A police team from Police Station Kralpora intercepted a suspect during naka checking at Reddi Chowkibal. Upon searching him, approximately 40 grams of a charas-like substance was recovered. The accused, identified as Abdul Rasheed Mir, son of Sonaullah Mir and a resident of Zonareshi, was taken into custody. A case has been registered under FIR No. 07/2025 at Police Station Kralpora, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, police intensified their efforts to prevent drug abuse by organising awareness rallies in Sogam and Kralpora. The rally in Sogam, led by DySP PC Lolab Raeis Ahmad-JKPS and SHO Police Station Sogam, began at Government Degree College Sogam and proceeded to the main market, with participation from students, residents, and officials.

Similarly, Police Station Kralpora conducted a rally led by DySP DAR Kupwara Syed Mujahid-ul-Haq-JKPS and SHO Police Station Kralpora. The march, which started from Government Higher Secondary School Kralpora and passed through the main market, saw participation from the Block Development Officer Kralpora, the school principal, and members of the general public. Participants carried banners and chanted slogans against drug abuse.
