Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) chief and MLA Langate Er Rasheed Friday criticized PDP-BJP government for “ignoring” Kupwara at all fronts.

Addressing two functions at Kukroosa Handwara and a magazine ‘MAWAR’ releasing ceremony at Higher secondary Qalamabad Langate, Rasheed said that while Kashmir division is being “ignored” as compared to Jammu and Ladakh regions, Kupwara seems to be “missing” from the dictionary of power corridors.

“While political parties are in race of claiming credit for establishing five medical colleges in state, nobody is even bothering to answer why didn’t most far flung and remote border district of state get a medical college or any prestigious institution?

Similarly, the Banihal-Baramulla railway line is not being extended up to Kupwara for the only reason that government does not want to open this district of natural beauties and wonders to tourists, as it doesn’t want to expose the heavy presence of security forces in this district,” Rasheed told the gatherings.

He said, “while everyone is talking about heavy sufferings and sacrifices of people of Kupwara and despite the fact that largest number of orphans and widows hail from this district, the coalition government owes an answer why didn’t it incorporate Kupwara in the Ladli-Beti scheme.”

“One needs to keep in mind that Kupwara is at the tail end of the state and as such is farthest away from the summer and the winter capitals so there is no reason why this district is being deprived from health facilities, railway line, university, professional colleges and other prestigious institutions,” he added.

Rasheed accused that those “claiming” to be representatives and “warriors” of Kupwara “seem to be worried and busy only in their own rehabilitation and don’t care about miseries and sufferings of people of Kupwara”.
