After protests by students of University of Kashmir over recent reported fee hike, varsity officials on Saturday said that it was “just a rumour”.
The students on Tuesday had assembled outside VC’s office, demanding roll back of “300 percent fee hike”.
The move had come in wake of increased fee in engineering department by SSM Parihaspora College.
“Basically, SSM College has separated various subjects into components, giving rise to different papers. Automatically, we have to increase exam charges,” Kashmir University PRO said.
“The increase in charges has been from Rs 1200 to Rs 3000,” he added.
He further said, “if any student is not able to bear this new hike, let him may come to us with writing from college authorities, that student will not be charged in such case.” However, he added, “merit will also be taken into account in these cases.”
The protest had led to chaos, as it was taken general hike for all courses offered by KU.
