SRINAGAR: A day after announcing the creation of new districts in Ladakh, the Union Territory administration has appointed Deputy Commissioners for the newly established administrative units to facilitate the implementation of the reorganization process.
As per an order issued by the General Administration Department, several officers have been transferred and assigned responsibilities to oversee the new districts.
Nitish Rajora (IAS), currently serving as Commissioner, State Taxes, with additional responsibilities for Excise, Accounts and Treasuries, and Housing and Urban Local Bodies, has been posted as Deputy Commissioner Changthang.
Mukil Beniwal has been appointed Deputy Commissioner Nubra, while Omkar Rajendra Gundge (IAS), formerly Sub-Divisional Magistrate Zanskar, has been posted as Deputy Commissioner Zanskar.
Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), Director Social Welfare Department, has been appointed Deputy Commissioner Sham, while Imtiyaz Kacho (JKAS), Director School Education, has been posted as Deputy Commissioner Drass.
The order specifies that Nitish Rajora will continue to hold charge as Commissioner, State Taxes and Excise until May 31, 2026.
From June 1, 2026, Romil Singh Donk (IAS), Deputy Commissioner Leh, will assume additional charge as Director Housing and Urban Local Bodies, along with Commissioner, State Taxes and Excise.
Sajjad Qadri (JKAS), Director Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, has been assigned additional charge of Director School Education.
Meanwhile, Zahida Bano (JKAS) has been transferred as Director Social and Tribal Welfare, and Kaneez Fatima, Joint Director Finance, will hold additional charge of Director Accounts and Treasuries.
The administrative reshuffle has been implemented with immediate effect to strengthen governance and streamline administrative functioning following Ladakh’s district expansion.
