With new subsidised routes including Leh–Kargil, Leh–Padum, Leh–Lingshad, Leh–Dibling, Leh–Nyerak, Leh–Diskit, and Leh–Turtuk, the Lt Governor said the service will provide faster and affordable travel for residents and tourists, while acting as a lifeline during harsh winters when roads remain blocked.

He said the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of improving infrastructure and development in border regions. The enhanced services will support medical evacuations, supply delivery, and better access to administration in far-flung villages, while boosting tourism and generating employment.

Chief Secretary Dr Pawan Kotwal said there is high demand for dependable winter connectivity, especially in Zanskar and Singge-Lalok. He informed that citizens can now book helicopter services online.

Senior officials from Civil Aviation, Pawan Hans, and the UT Administration were present at the launch.(KINS)
