The changes have been ordered with immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders, according to Order No. 74 (Trm) UTL of 2026 issued by the Tourism and Culture Department on September 11.

The order follows the creation of the five new districts through Notification S.O. 180 dated April 27, 2026, and aims to bring the territorial jurisdiction of Tourism Department field officers in line with the revised administrative boundaries.

Under the new arrangement, the Assistant Director (Tourism), Leh, will have jurisdiction over District Leh, District Sham, District Nubra and District Changthang.

The Assistant Director (Tourism), Kargil, will oversee District Kargil and District Drass, while the Tourist Officer, Zanskar, will exercise jurisdiction over District Zanskar.

The order clarifies that the revised allocation is without prejudice to any specific statutory or notified jurisdiction vested in any authority.

The officers have been directed to discharge their departmental functions within their assigned jurisdictions and coordinate with the concerned district administrations and other line departments on matters falling within their respective areas.
