SRINAGAR: The Union Territory of Ladakh has taken a major step towards securing sustainable drinking water supply with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ladakh Administration and the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil, Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna, and Secretary Jal Shakti Ashok KK Meena.
According to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, the MoU aims to provide clean and adequate drinking water through Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to every rural household under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
As a special provision, the Union Government has agreed to provide 100 per cent funding for water connections in Ladakh, compared to the 60–90 per cent funding pattern applicable in other States and Union Territories.
Officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen water security and climate resilience in the high-altitude region.
