Attendants ransacked a hospital in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday after a woman died due to alleged medical negligence.

Reports said that a woman, identified as Sadia Kouser, resident of Badhoon village, was brought to District Hospital Rajouri at 6pm where casualty medical officer examined her and later referred her to the gynecology ward.

“Staff of the Gynecology ward called the doctor time and again but she didn’t respond and in a couple of hours the lady died due to absence of doctor at about 8 PM,” said the attendants of the deceased.

The death of the woman triggered protests and chaos at the hospital with angry attendants ransacking the gynecology ward and operation theatre.

The protests continued until 1am despite the police officials assuring action against the erring doctor.

Meanwhile, the district administration has placed under suspension a doctor of the gynecology ward and ordered an inquiry into the matter. The report, it said, would be submitted in a week’s time.

Besides on the complaint of family members of the deceased, police has also registered a case against the staff of hospital.

“We have placed one doctor under suspension and an inquiry has been ordered,” DC Rajouri Shabir Ahmad Bhat said, adding that police has also started its probe.
