SRINAGAR: After enhancing the wages of daily rated workers and labourers, the Ladakh administration Saturday gave 100 percent hike to remuneration of the councillors of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils.

As per a notification issued by Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Secretary General Administrative Department Ladakh the councillors of LAHDC, Ladakh and Kargil will get Rs 1,20,000 per month from existing Rs 60,000 with 100 percent hike.

The notification reads the decision has been taken on Samvidhan Divas (Constitution Day) to strengthen and support a robust democracy at the grassroots level.

It reads the package of LAHDC councillors includes an additional monthly constituency allowance of Rs 40,000, Office or Telephone Allowance of Rs 10,000 and Medical Allowance of Rs 10,000.

Earlier, a committee under the Chairmanship of Principal Secretary, Revenue and Planning Department, Dr Pawan Kotwal was set up for the same and the decision to enhance renumeration was taken based on the recommendations of this committee.

Earlier, this month the Ladakh administration hiked minimum wages for skilled and unskilled workers from Rs 350 to Rs 575 and Rs 225 to Rs 450 respectively. (KNO)
